13,000 Tons of Garbage Collected in Littoral Areas of Hrazdan River and Yerevan Lake To Be Removed
Yerevan Municipality plans to carry out large-scale cleaning works in 2022 on the shores of the Hrazdan River and Lake Yerevan, as it was announced at the press conference held on July 21, 2021 by Gevorg Karapetyan, Deputy Director of "Greening and Environmental Protection" NGO of Yerevan Municipality.

Gevorg Karapetyan informed that according to preliminary calculations, due to the actions of businesses and citizens, about 13 thousand tons of garbage has accumulated in the coastal areas of Lake Yerevan and Hrazdan River. According to him, there are harmful plants growing on waste in the area of 15 hectares of the shores of Lake Hrazdan, Hrazdan River, which evaporate large volumes of water annually.

According to Karapetyan, in the beginning all those parts should be cleaned, and then the collected garbage will be sorted and sent to recycling. In addition to the clean-up, an infrastructure upgrade process will be carried out on site. "Cages will be installed, garbage-hunting measures will be carried out," Gevorg Karapetyan outlined.
