A new landfill site is planned to be constructed in Hrazdan Town, Kotayk Region, which will cost 7 million Euros. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development will grant a loan of 3.5 million Euros to the Armenian Government and another 3.5 million will be provided as a grant from the EU Neighborhood Investment Means. The landfill site will occupy an area of 20 ha.
The public hearings on the initial assessment of the working project of soild waste management in Kotayq will be held at 11:00 on 20 January 2016 at Hrazdan Municipality, Kotayq Region.
The new landfill site will be the ownership of Hrazdan, Tsaghkadzor, Charentsavan, Yeghvard, Nor Hachn, Byureghavan, Abovyan and Sevan Regional Municipalities and will be managed by them. Eight regional municipalities will found 'Joint Stock Company for Landfill Site Management' (LSMC), where regional municipalities will be shareholders.
'After the closure of landfill sites the total amount of CO2 emissions can be reduced from annual 3,500-5000 tons to annually 1,750-2500 tons,' the claim says.
