The Public Environmental Court will try the case On Hazards Threatening Lake Sevan Having Strategic Significance for Armenia" based on the claim filed by Liana Asoyan, President of “Blejan” NGO supporting environment, society and business at 12:00 on 8 May 2019 at “Ibis” Hotel (“Karin Hall”, 2nd floor, 5/1 Northern Avenue, Yerevan).

Competent governmental bodies have persistently been violating the provisions of a number of laws such RA Law on Lake Sevan, RA Law on Approving Annual and Complex Programs for Recovery, Conservation, Reproduction and Use of Lake Sevan Ecosystem, RA Law on Specially Protected Areas of Nature, RA Law on Flora, RA Law on Fauna and RA Law on Environmental Impact Assessment and expertise, as a result of which Lake Sevan which is a strategic and national priority for the Republic of Armenia is currently in a critical state.  The lake blossoming and waterlogging of littoral areas have become too frequent, endemic and imported fish reserves have deteriorated drastically, the quality properties of the freshwater have deteriorated, and an unfavourable situation has been established to use Lake Sevan and its littoral areas as a recreation and tourism zone.

During the public trial, the participation and liability of the following governmental bodies will be discussed for the current situation: the previous Armenian Government, RA Nature Protection Ministry, “Sevan National Park” SCNO, Environmental Inspection Body, State Committee for Tourism Industry, Lake Sevan Preservation Expert Committee for NAS RA.

The member judges are environmental lawyer Nazeli Vardanyan, ethnographer and publicist Hranush Kharatyan human rights defender Zaruhi Hovhannisyan, 'Territorial Development and Studies Center' NGO President Satik BAdeyan and President of 'EcoLur' Informational NGO Inga Zarafyan.
