Varazdat Karapetyan, Chairman of Standing Committee on Territorial Administration, Local Self-Government, Agriculture and Environment of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia has amended the draft law adopted in the first reading he authored which proposed to exclude more than 170 million cubic meters of water intake from Lake Sevan annually.
As the Armenpress reports, speaking to reporters in the National Assembly on November 15, Karapetyan stated that the amendment aims to define only one case when the government will be able to carry out excessive water intake.
“After long discussions, I am amending the draft, stating that if the government declares a drought and there are preconditions for declaring a drought, then the government will have the right to apply to the National Assembly for additional water intake. In all other cases. it won’t be entitled to,” Karapetyan said.
