Forecasts say that blue algae blooming will be observed in Lake Sevan by 2020. This was stated by the Minister of Environment of the Republic of Armenia Erik Grigoryan at the October 10 government meeting. “It is anticipated that the 5 million euro grant expected from the European Union will also address the issues related to the cleaning of Lake Sevan. At the same time, we have approved clearing more coastal areas next year from forest cover. It will also reduce the pressure on Sevan. But it is clear that the amount of pollution coming from dozens of communities and other sources should be drastically reduced. If not reduced, the risks will be great,” Erik Grigoryan said.
According to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, the businesses that operate on the shore of Lake Sevan should also eliminate their pollution.
Minister Erik Grigoryan noted that more than 140 million cubic meters of water have been released from Lake Sevan. “This year we have not only taken more this year, but we have also compensated the previous year. We believe that the water demand may be somewhat reduced for the coming years,” Erik Grigoryan said.
In this regard, RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan noted: “From the beginning when it was clear that we were moving at a good pace, the first impression was that it was due to the weather. But further analysis has shown that this is the result of the operative measures we decided to take at the beginning of the year. "
