“It’s a fact that the environmental impact assessment of Amulsar project misses the information that Amulsar is located on tectonic zone, the same zone where Jermuk is located and due this fact we have mineral water. Explosions in this zone may lead to seismicity and disturbance of hydrodynamic regime. The water may get disappeared,” thinks Vazgen Galstyan, Head of the Center for Jermuk Territorial Development. Vazgen Galstyan took part in EcoLur working groups’ trip to Vayots Dzor Region, and together with CEE Bankwatch Network Executive Director Mark Fodor studied Amulsar gold mine development project and other environmental issues. Amulsar project is implemented by Lydian International Company as represented by its local Geoteam Company with the financial support of International Finance Corporation, a part of World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

“Jermuk is a town of water; we can see how the funds of the European Bank impact on the water of Jermuk and its people. Pressure on the banks should be enhanced so as they acted in line with the European standards,” Mark Fodor thinks. Watch details in the video by EcoLur.
