A party of the dispute expressed himself very shortly and clearly over the mine operation issue in the village of Kajaran in Syunik marz (region), which has raised much noise: the mine will definitely be operated.
In his talk with journalists, Director of Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine Maxim Hakobyan didn’t forget to note the progress the plant has made-export increase, salary rise and confidence, and added 2012 will be a year of successes in mining industry.
“It will definitely be operated, and they will operate it, its operation will be their wish. Non-operation is excluded. There is no such problem there. Both the journalists and the co-workers have presented the issue wrongly. I have examined the issue thoroughly and know it. There will be problem neither with the village residents, nor the village itself,” Maxim Hakobyan said.

“Residents of Kajaran village will never leave their village, and won’t let anyone’s personal interest be considered public interest,” such is the attitude of the village residents of Kajaran in Syunik marz (region) towards the Government’s decision, according to which, their lands and the lands of several other communities must be disposed of with the purpose to expand Kajaran’s copper-molybdenum mine.
Eviction threatens residents of Kajaran. The borderline village built in the 12th century is only 3-4 km far from Nakhijevan. They complain that people, who have never founded a village, are presently emptying the communities, which is a hostile attitude towards their own people. With a letter undersigned by 600 people, the village residents have expressed their anger to the prime minister and the president; however, they didn’t receive definite answers.
There are 131 households, 270 residents in Kajaran. They were proposed to leave the village for monetary compensation.
