WHERE IS ARSENIC FROM MADAN MORTUARY?

EcoLur

Arsenic hasn’t been found in the water samples taken from Debed River, as well as air samples taken from the territory of so-called Madan Mortuary located near Alaverdi Town. This was the reply given by Rescue Service of RA on the request submitted by the Aarhus Center in Alaverdi. The Rescue Service substantiates its reply with the results of the analysis conducted by the State Hygienic and Antiepidemic Inspection of the Ministry of Nature Protection of RA.

The Aarhus Center in Alaverdi substantiates its anxiety about the state of Madan mortuary with the information received from the current and former employees of Alaverdi Copper Smelting Combine. They insist that the wastes of the combine containing arsenic are buried in the territory of the mortuary. This arsenic had earlier been used in the technological cycle for the production of black copper. Afterwards this chain of the production was removed, but the mortuary remained. The locals also assure that caproic containers with laboratory wastes of the combine had been buried in the mortuary.

According to ecologists, the state of the mortuary fills apprehension and is subject to checkouts and monitoring to reveal the risks for environment and people’s health living in the neighborhood.

As it became known to EcoLur, the Environmental Impact Monitoring Center is conducting its own investigation of this issue by the request of the Ministry of Nature Protection of RS and the results will be submitted in near future.
