EcoLur
The Ministry of Nature protection of RA didn’t receive any documentation on conducting geological-investigative works for drawing up a topographic map for locating a radioactive waste burial facility. This is the Ministry’s answer to EcoLur’s enquiry numbered 5/08/51201-10. The letter also says the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of RA coordinates all the actions on this government decision.
Here a problem arises: how the provisions of the Aarhus Convention and RA Law “On Environmental Impact Expert Assessment” can be performed, if one ministry doesn’t even inform the other about environmentally important decisions at planning stage, particularly, on siting a radioactive waste disposal facility posing a threat to health and environment.
Reminder: EcoLur raised an alarm on siting a radioactive waste disposal facility in Zangakatoun and Ourtsalanj (Ararat Region) where locals held a protest demonstration conducting geological-investigative works within the administrative territories of the communities.
