The working group of Nature Protection Ministry, business and Martz Village Head has united in the protection of Martziget-1 SHHP project. Recently the working group consisting of 8 people headed for the village and tried to convince the villagers that the SHHP to be constructed by “MegaEnergy” Company won’t cause any damage and all the permitting documents are available. Village Head Robert Galstyan in her interview with EcoLur said, “Different opinions were expressed and there was a proposal to become a company shareholder at least for 1 percent. And the villagers agreed.” But the villagers say something else, “Nothing like this, there was no agreement and we didn’t accept any proposal….Here two opinions can’t exist… They came to convince us and to dictate conditions…We are all against and we won’t permit any construction... Everything has dried up – 7 km upwards and 5 km downwards, only these 4 kilometers are left and they want to destroy it….Leave it to us…” said the gathered villagers. The village head signed the minutes of the public hearings on Martziget-1 SHHP project, which doesn’t reflect the opinion of the villagers. The villagers sent a letter to Nature Protection Ministry with 280 signatures against the project. “All are against it and are very concerned. Why they don’t ask for people’s opinion. They just come and start constructing, presenting documents. I don’t know what we can do,” said Village Aldermen’s Council member Gayane Qochinyan. Under her, the damage will be huge – both the pastures, and meadows, and rest zone and sanitary zone. “River is our main aid: it takes off and cleans the village from wastes, and if a SHHP is constructed, the sanitary situation will deteriorate, everybody knows it,” Gayane Qochinyan said.
