SHPPs continue attracting international financial institutions, which expect for 100% of repayment of the allotted loans. The working meeting on the SHPPs (organized by Renewable Resources and Energy Efficiency Fund and Energy and Natural Resources Ministry) were participated by several international banks at the same time. Among the permanent participants were the German KfW Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, International Finance Corporation and a new financial player in Armenia - the European Investment Bank. The Bank is still deciding which fields to invest into, and as Violine Silvestro, EIB representative stated, the field of energy and SHPPs is considered to be as one of the most favorable ones.

The other banks are also preparing new protfolios, particularly, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, which already has a track-record of funding 24 SHPPs through loaning the commercial banks. The German Bnak finances the construction of SHPPs in the frames of 40-million-worth agreement with the Central Bank of Armenia.

The material was  developed in the frames of “Supporting reforms in the sector of small hydro power plants through enabling a dialogue between civil society  and the Ministry  of Nature Protection for sustainable use of river ecosystems” supported by UNDP/GEF Small Grants Programme".
