Which Are Most Polluted Rivers in Armenia as of September 2018

16 rivers in Armenia have the highest level pollution, class 5: as the recent data of 'Environmental Monitoring and Information Center' of Nature Protection Ministry show (as of September 2018).

The rivers polluted because of mining are highlighted in Syunik and Lori Regions.
Atchanan (Norashenik) River flowing in Syunik Region has class 5 pollution, the worst level of pollution. The main pollutants are molybdenum, vanadium, potassium, antimony, sulfate ion.
For years alarm signals have been beaten from Syunik that the Atchanan River is polluted by Artsvank tailing dump of Zangezour copper and molybdenum mine.

The combine is also affecting the Voghji River, which has the highest level of pollution, class 5, because of high concentrations of molybdenum in the section near Qajaran. Kartchevan and Meghriget rivers also have class-five pollution, which are polluted with Agarak copper and molybdenum combine and other existing mining objects. In Lori Region, Debed, Shnogh, Akhtala, Pambak rivers have class-five pollution.

Rivers polluted by the communities and having class-five pollution are as follows: Vararak River flowing in Syunik, Hrazdan and Getar Rivers flowing through Yerevan, Karkachoun River flowing in Shirak Region, Metsamor River in Armavir Region and Qasakh and Gegharot Rivers flowing in Aragatsotn Region.
