The issue with opencast development of Shahumyan gold-polymetallic mine in Kapan, Syunik Region, has already been raised. Recently Canadian ' Dundee Precious Metals ' Company (Company representative to Armenia is Deno Gold Mining Company) General Director Jonathan Goodman told News.am, the preliminary assessment of opencast mine project of Shahumyan gold-polymetallic mine in Kapan will be accomplished in the 3rd quarter of 2012. The opencast development project will be launched from 2007.
Early in 2011 the project was put for discussion at the government, which was opposed by Kapan population and public at large, as the project bears large risks.
After the fuss Deno Gold Mining Company stated that increase in production output will be performed through closed mining.
