In 2022, the radioactive pollution of the rivers of Lake Sevan and its catchment area will be monitored by Environment Ministry and Gegharkounik Regional Administration with the consent of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia. This is what is stated in the annual program of measures for the restoration, preservation, reproduction, normal development and use of the Lake Sevan ecosystem for 2022.
Reminder: on July 1, 2021, under the decision 1098-N adopted by RA Government, a grant of 38,360.0 thousand AMD was provided to "Hydro-meteorological Monitoring Center" SNCO of RA Environment Ministry. The reasoning of the decision states that due to "military" situation, this SNCO will carry out professional water safety studies of the upper reaches of the catchment area of the Arpa and Vorotan rivers in the Qarvachar area.
Arpa and Vorotan Rivers are the rivers of Lake Sevan catchment basin.
"Based on the current situation, it is necessary to increase the frequency of sampling in the upper reaches of the above-mentioned rivers by applying water quality tests, which will allow to find out the changes in water quality in a matter of minutes and to respond quickly.
In order to fully assess the water quality, it is also necessary to monitor the radioactive contamination of water in the upper reaches of the above-mentioned rivers, so it is necessary to carry out water sampling from those sites, to study the samples in doses. It is planned to be installed in Jermuk meteorological station, it will be possible to monitor radioactive contamination of water on a daily basis.
At the same time, there is a need to monitor the radioactive contamination of the air or soil, which, in its turn, implies the acquisition of appropriate doses," the statement says. 38,360.0 thousand AMD was provided for the purchase of those doses.
