“Navigating Challenges and Shared Good Practices in Climate Action from Local to National Levels” Workshop Kicked off in Tbilisi

“Navigating Challenges and Shared Good Practices in Climate Action from Local to National Levels” workshop has kicked off in Tbilisi. During the workshop, the local activities of climate change adaptation and mitigation, challenges, ways to solve them, issues of cooperation between stakeholders, community participation in the implementation of state policies will be discussed. Civil society representatives of Georgia, Ukraine, Moldova and Armenia, representatives of local self-government bodies, international organizations are participating in the workshop. From Armenia, Tehmine Yenoqyan, President of "Green Armenia" NGO, Irina Mkrtchyan, Co-founder of "ISD Innovative Solutions for Sustainable Development of Communities" NGO, and Victoria Burnazyan, Deputy President of "EcoLur" Informational NGO, are participating in this workshop.

In the session "Climate Risk Mapping, Related Challenges and Their Solution Strategies", Victoria Burnazyan noted that Armenia is vulnerable to climate change. In Armenia, the air temperature increased by 1.6 degrees during the period 1935-2023, while according to the forecasts of the 4th National Report on Climate Change, the atmospheric air temperature should have increased by 2024. The level of Lake Sevan has decreased over the last 3 years, an increase in dangerous hydrometeorological phenomena is observed. Victoria Burnazyan also presented the problems identified by EcoLur as a result of community studies and the state policy towards the regulation of climate problems.

"Navigating Challenges and Shared Good Practices in Climate Action from Local to National Levels" workshop was organized by Georgian "Green Alternative" NGO within the framework of "Strengthening Civil Society to Implement National Climate Policy" program, with the funding of the International Initiative for Climate Protection of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany (IKI)  in cooperation with Friends of the Earth Germany. The workshop will continue until April 18.
