If Yeghvard reservoir reconstruction is implemented, water intake from Lake Sevan will be reduced by 50 million cubic meters. Today Khoren Tsarukyan, hydraulic engineer, coordinator of Eghvard reservoir project at the state institution “Project Implementation Unit on Water Industry” of the State Committee of Water Economy of the RA, told the journalists about this during the visit to the area of Yeghvard unfinished reservoir in Kotayk region.

“The Armenian Government applied to the International Development Agency of Japan to support the project. Now we together with the Japanese are implementing the technical and economic feasibility stage, after which there will be the detailed project and finally the construction stage. It’s planned to construct a reservoir with a storage capacity of 90 million cubic meters. The service areas of “Yeghvard”, “Khoy”, “Vagharshapat” and “Ashtarak” WUAs and about 12.200 ha of lands. There will be 3000 ha of new lands. About 9 pumping stations, huge deep wells will cease to operate and about 28 million kw/h of electricity will be saved. The water intake from Lake Sevan will be reduced by 50 million cubic meters which will be very effective in terms of nature protection.

Yeghvard reservoir occupies 1000 ha of total area.
