Alarm Signal: Akhtala Community Near Home Land areas and Debed River Polluted with Waste Water

Land plots in the enlarged community of Akhtala and the Debed River have been polluted with wastewater, as Oleg Dulgaryan, President of “Community Mobilization and Support Center” NGO, beat an alarm signal about this on May 9.

In his conversation with EcoLur, he mentioned that the floodwaters near the Aramyants Castle in Akhtala community, mixing with the wastes of the explosives in the gorge tailings dump and the adjacent landfills, flowed through inter-community roads to the adjacent plots, then flowed into the Akhtala River. "Akhtala joins the Debed River 20 meters beyond the part of the river where the landfills were dumped, so the agricultural crops, trees and vegetables of the owners of the houses are constantly under this pollution,” Oleg Dulgaryan said.

He mentioned that in Akhtala community, heavy metals will continue to accumulate in the bodies of people and children, endangering their lives. "No one is responsible for this situation, nor do they solve this problem, which we have been raising for years. The citizens are also defenseless in this situation. There is no legislation to protect them, nor any body. Akhtala must be cleaned of waste immediately, we have been saying for more than a year, the situation is extreme ... ", Oleg Dulgaryan warns.
