In 1952 the development of a copper mine was launched in Dastakert settlement, Syunik Region, and after a while the copper and molybdenum combine was constructed. The tailing dump of the combine is located in the lower part of the town, where one of the Ayri River tributaries flows. We have sent an enquiry to Nature Protection Ministry and the following reply was given, “Dastakert copper and molybdenum combine hasn’t been operating since 1975. The combine tailing dump which occupies an area of 9 ha, about one million tons of concentrate is accumulated. Environmental examination was last conducted in the combine in 1990.” This is the information that Nature Protection Ministry possesses.
