The “Aravot” asked the Head of Syunik Regional Adminsitration Suren Khachatryan, what his attitude towards uranium mine development is. The Regional Head thinks this question to be specific.
“We have risks in regard with Kajaran Copper and Molybdenum Combine, but the people have already put up with this. If uranium is not processed on site, this will bear no risks. But uranium on-site processing is not planned. The ore will be transported to another place”. When the newspaper correspondent asked when uranium extraction is planned, the Regional Head said, “Regardless of its start, it will be useful for Syunik, no harm is expected from this”.
Nevertheless, Syunik residents are of another opinion. “Whoever wants to develop a mine here, let them come here with their families, grandchildren and live here, build their office in our village. If not, if they show up in our places, as Kapan residents say, we will tear them in two pieces. There is no good,” said Lernadzor School Principal Grigoryan in his interview with the “Aravot”.
