SERGEY KIRIYENKO TO DISCUSS CONSTRUCTION OF NEW NPP UNIT IN YEREVAN

On August 19, Sergey Kiriyenko, the head of Rosatom (the Russian state nuclear energy corporation) will arrive in Yerevan within the framework of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s official visit to Armenia, RA Energy Ministry press service informed NEWS.am.

Rosatom’s participation in the events aimed at increasing security level of NPP operating in Armenia, as well as issues related to construction of a new power unit will be on the agenda.

Russia intends to become a co-owner of NPPs constructed in Armenia and Bulgaria.
Nearly a month ago the Armenian Government approved Armenian-Russian draft agreement on cooperation in construction of new power units in Armenia’s territory. The first point of the agreement provides for the construction of new reactors in Armenia in conformity with European Utility Requirements. The operating life of each reactor is 60 years.
