Several valuable plant species growing in the forest zone surrounding Vanadzor are on the verge of extinction. In his turn Karen Afrikyan, PhD in Biological Sciences, outlined two plant species will appear in the Red Book in near future.
Karen Afrikyan marks the zones in Lori Region that forever got lost as forest zones and are not subject to any recovery even in a century. Among victim forests he singles out the forests in Gougark, particularly in Vanadzor. On the other hand, as a result of natural growth, the forest structure underwent qualitative changes. If, before felling, 90% of forest consists of oak and beech trees, after felling ash trees outbalance.
