Letter from Jermuk Residents to EDB regarding Possible Financing of Amulsar Project

The residents of Jermuk consolidated community addressed a letter to Chairman of the Management Board of the Eurasian Development Bank, Deputy Chairman of the Management Board Denis Ilin, Country Director at Eurasian Development Bank Armen Melkikyan. The letter says,

“AMULSAR SHOULD STAY AS MOUNTAIN: THAT'S IT”

Around 3,000 residents have clearly expressed their opposition to the development of metal mines in the territory of the community with their signatures.

The environmental risks of Amulsar have been discussed many times and by many experts.

In addition to uncontrollable environmental problems, Amulsar mining is a direct blow to the existence and economic direction of Jermuk mineral water treatment, resort and tourist town.

The residents of the community are justly against the implementation of such a unperspective project and the forced change of their socio-economic branch.

We confidently note that Jermuk community residents and many people who share their approach stand firmly behind Amulsar and warn that any support for this project is an adventure and doomed to failure. Amulsar is a living space for the population of Jermuk community and we will not give it up.
