“INSTGATIONS IN MASHTOTS PARK BECOMING STROINGER AND STRONGER.” At this very moment more than 20 policemen together with workers have gathered in the park. The number of activists is about 10 people. Kentron Police Head approached to activists and demanded to leave the territory of the park within 5-10 minutes. We would like to ask you to join the people in Mashtots Park.  This issue is extremely urgent: “PEOPLE!!! JOIN!!!” EcoLur received this alarm from “Our City” Civic Initiative.

Just minutes after this message a new post was circulated on Facebook, “Policemen have surrounded the young activists and took them away from the construction site.”

Police chase away protesters

A1+

Police in Yerevan are forcibly removing environmental activists from Mashtots avenue where the group has been staging protests for seven days now against what they say installation of kiosks in green areas.

Last Saturday, some 30 activists formed a wall in the avenue demanding to stop the removal of the demolished kiosks from Abovyan Avenue to Mashtots Avenue. The environmentalists are protesting against the illegal construction and destruction of green space.

A1+'s journalist reports from the ground that the construction has resumed. Police officers, who exceed the protesters, are elbowing and pushing the environmentalists, focing them off the area. They do not even pity the journalists working on the site and say they do it out of security measures.

The environmentalists are supported by Heritage MPs who are also banned from entering the green area without any explanation.
