NGOs are expressing more and more concern in regard with initiating forests privatization or their gratuitous use. Shogher Union called on everybody to follow up this process and to hinder such developments as much as possible.
The reason for their concern is the correspondence of Nature Protection Ministry with Agriculture Ministry on allotting forestland areas for gratuitous use to ‘A & M Rare’ Company. The letter of Nature Protection Ministry signed by Minister Aram Harutyunyan addressed to Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan says this project has been rejected: ‘This project is considered as unacceptable,’ says the reply letter. As substantiation, the Ministry lays down 32 and 33 Articles of Forest Code of Armenia. Forestlands mentioned above are also included in specially protected territories of Arzakyan and Meghradzor. The gratuitous use of these territories is not laid down,” the letter says.
