324,843 Young Sevan Trout of “Gegharkuni” Subspecies Released into Lake Sevan

The process of restoring and conserving fish stocks in Lake Sevan continues.

Recently, 324,843 young trout of “Gegharkuni” subspecies of Sevan trout (Salmo ischchan gegarkuni) were released into the lake. The fish were bred at the Karchaghbyur Fish Breeding Plant of “Sevan Trout” CJSC, as the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia informs.

The release event was attended by Deputy Minister of Environment Aram Meymaryan, Gegharkunik Regional Governor Karen Sargsyan, and Deputy Head of Eco-Inspection Service Murad Nurijanyan.

“This initiative is part of a planned program aimed at restoring the trout population, which has been under threat of decline for many years,” the ministry statement says.
