On 17 October EcoLur’s camera fixed how the water from Arpa-Sevan tunnel flows into the Yeghegis River, where a cascade of SHPPs operate.
The tunnel with a length of 48.3 km is constructed for the water diversion from Kechout reservoir into Lake Sevan. The rehabilitation works of the tunnel have been carried out for recent 10 years, whereas the construction works of the tunnel lasted for 18 years – from 1963 to 1981.
Now the water designed for the increase in Lake Sevan level flows into the Yeghegis River and afterwards its flows in the direction of Nakhijevan.
Nowadays the level of Lake Sevan fluctuates around 1900 meters plus several centimeters. It should be mentioned that the lake level should have reached 1903.5 meters up to 2013, which is a minimum to prevent Sevan waterlogging.
The material has been prepared in the frames of “Support to the Reforms of SHPPs through a Dialogue between the Public and The Ministry of Nature Protection of the RA for the Purpose of River Ecosystem Use” project.
