Disastrous Ecological State in Getar River Estuary

The ecological state of Getar river estuary flowing through Yerevan is disastrous conditioned with high pollution of vanadium, chromium, ammonium ion and manganese. Under the annual report by “Environmental Impact Monitoring Center” SNCO for 2012, the average annual concentration of vanadium has exceeded the maximum permissible concentration by 21.5 times, chromium - 15.8, nitrite ion – 11.7, ammonium ion – 11.2, manganese – 5.0 and zinc – 1.1 times. In this section of the river the concentration of vanadium in the water made up 215 mcg/l, chromium - 790 mcg/l, nitrite ion – 0.117 mgN/l, ammonium ion – 2.24 mgN/l, manganese – 250 mcg/l and zinc – mcg/l.
The disastrous ecological state of Getar estuary has been detected under EcoLur’s Ecological Risk Model.
