The Martuni River flows in Gegharkounik Region. It rises from the northern slopes of Vardenis mountains and flows into Lake Sevan 2 km north from Martuni town. Its length is 27 km.

As of 1 January 2014, under the licenses issued by Public Services Regulatory Committee and the main indicators of small hydro power plants operated by hydropower companies, “Martuni” SHPP is constructed on this river, which is operated by “MKSHG Energia” LLC, derivation length – 2900.0, 1600.0 meters.

The SHPP pipes a total river area of 4500 meters, which makes up 16.666667% of the river.
