One can see the smoke out the chimney of Alaverdi Copper-smelting Plant still approaching to the town.
“Armenian Copper Program” ACP Company of “Vallex” Group promised to install quite expensive filters on 100-meter-long chimney instead of those ones deinstalled when the plant closed down approximately 3 years ago.
Yet, today the filters are not installed and it is unknown, whether these filters will be installed or not. Vahram Avagyan, Assistant to the President of “Vallex” Group Companies said during the conversation given to “А1+”, though filters are not installed, but they are ready for exploitation. According to him, the environmental won’t be solved with the installation of these filters, as it is impossible to filter sulfuric anhydride in the exhausts that causes environmental issues.
