Armenia Celebrating Day of Specifically Protected Areas of Nature

Today, September 13, Armenia celebrates Specially Protected Areas of Nature (SPAN) Day. On September 2, 2021, RA Government adopted the Government Decision "On Celebrating the Day of Specially Protected Areas in the Republic of Armenia."

Starting today, various events, information tours and eco-educational courses will be held in the protected areas for a month. "A large-scale event is planned for September 17. Ambassadors will visit specially protected areas," Spokeswoman for the RA Minister of Environment Ani Hakobyan told EcoLur.

The total area of ​​specially protected areas currently operating in Armenia is 387054 ha or 13.1% of the total area of ​​the Republic of Armenia. SPANs are home to 60-70% of the flora and fauna species, including the vast majority of rare, critically endangered and endangered species.

 It should be reminded that in the substantiation of the RA Government's decision it is mentioned that the decision will contribute to the increase of capacity for specially protected areas in the territory of the Republic of Armenia, the solution of environmental problems, the development of the subconscious of the masses, the increase of environmental awareness.
