April 1 is International Bird Day, which aims to preserve the diversity and numbers of birds.
Many bird species in Armenia are on the verge of extinction, with 96 species being red-listed. The main reasons for the extinction of birds are poaching, deprivation of food base, scarcity of forest areas, irregular use of the aquatic environment, drying of some artificial lakes, unstable ecological condition of Lake Sevan, urbanization, and environmental pollution.
