The network of public journalists established by “EcoLur” Informational NGO within the framework of “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia” (LILA) project has turned 1.5 years old. It was founded in early 2024. The public journalists were selected through meetings held in LILA project’s target communities, which were attended by 140 residents from 12 settlements.
Participants selected from the beneficiary communities of Shatin, Vernashen, Gladzor, Artabuynk, Shaghat, Sevkar, Dsegh, Martz, and Yeghengut took part in public journalism training courses organized by EcoLur. There, they gained journalistic skills and became members of the public journalists’ network.
Today, the geographical reach of the public journalists’ network has expanded. New members have joined from Ohanavan, Ditavan, Ijevan, Atan, and Zorakan. Their audience is also growing by the day, now including not only village residents but also representatives of government bodies, civil society, donor organizations, and the media. The network’s work can be followed on “Voice of Public Journalists” Facebook group, where they report on the socio-economic challenges, climate issues, natural environment, events, development opportunities and prospects, tourism potential, and daily life of communities in Syunik, Vayots Dzor, Lori, and Tavush Regions.
To date, over 300 posts, including videos and photo reports, have been published on “Voice of Public Journalists” platform.
Through their volunteer work, public journalists are making the voices of rural communities heard. Their content can serve as a foundation for implementing development-oriented projects in these areas.
“Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia” (LILA) project is funded by the Government of Switzerland through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), and implemented by Caucasus and Armenia offices of the WWF in partnership with Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO.
