The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Regional Environmental Center for the Caucasus (REC Caucasus), in cooperation with RA Ministry of Environment, are organizing a capacity-building workshop on “ Milestone Biodiversity Strategies and Documents.”

The aim of this initiative is to support Armenia in its preparations for COP17, strengthen the knowledge of national stakeholders on the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to be held in Yerevan in 2026, the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and Armenia’s updated National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan.

This format also provides an opportunity to discuss and define Armenia’s priorities ahead of COP17, as well as to promote dialogue and develop a shared understanding of Armenia’s role and contribution in the COP17 process.

The first meeting was held on November 20 in Yerevan. It brought together representatives of state, diplomatic, international, civil society, and academic institutions active in the environmental sector.

Presentations were delivered on Armenia’s priorities for COP17, the UN Convention on Biological Diversity, the Nagoya and Cartagena Protocols, the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and the National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan.
