Official Logo and Motto of COP17 Unveiled

On December 9, 2025, within the framework of the 7th session of the UN Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) in Kenya, the official logo and motto of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) were unveiled, as the Ministry of Environment informs.

The event was attended by Astrid Schomaker, Executive Secretary of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity; Vahe Hovhannisyan, Minister of Finance of the Republic of Armenia; Mher Margaryan, COP17 Special Negotiator; as well as heads of international organizations and partners.

The Yerevan Azure (Polyommatus erivanensis), an endemic red-listed species of the Armenian Highlands, was chosen as the basis for the official COP17 logo.

The visual identity of #COP17 is designed around the concept of the butterfly's life cycle-egg, larva, chrysalis, and flight-which identifies with the continuity, diversity, and regenerative capacity of natural systems.

The silhouette of the butterfly is composed of 23 colors, corresponding to the targets of the Global Biodiversity Framework, as well as one primary blue color, symbolizing the identity of the butterfly.

The color structure highlights the main focus of the conference: ensuring the stability and vitality of nature through action.

The motto of #COP17, "Acting for Nature," reflects the core of current environmental policy, calling for a shift from initiatives to targeted and coordinated actions.

"This logo is not merely an image or a design. It carries our shared vision of the integrity of goals and shared responsibility. Armenia is preparing to host the global biodiversity community with the clear conviction that it is time to turn words into real actions, and cooperation into systemic changes.

During #COP17, our priority will be the real and measurable implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework at the level of national policies, programs, and practical steps.

At the same time, we prioritize the inclusivity of the entire implementation process, ensuring that indigenous peoples and local communities, women, youth, and representatives of civil society, academia, and the private sector are full partners in this process.

Under Armenia's presidency, #COP17 aims to strengthen synergies in the fields of biodiversity, climate, and land resource conservation, contributing to policy complementarity and practical results.

All of this unites under one clear message: it is time for ACTING FOR NATURE," the official release states.
