Ahead of the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), EcoLur Informational NGO held an awareness-raising meeting in Jermuk community.
Jermuk is not only one of Armenia’s renowned health resort towns, known for its mineral waters, but also an important area for biodiversity conservation and nature-based sustainable development.

Jermuk’s aquatic systems and forest ecosystems are of major importance for biodiversity conservation, providing habitat and food for numerous plant and animal species. At the same time, the area’s natural landscapes-including forests, mountain meadows, aquatic systems, and natural springs-offer significant potential for the development of nature-based tourism.

Jermuk’s main natural and tourist attractions include Jermuk Waterfall, forest trails, mountain landscapes, and mineral springs, which are an important part of the town’s natural identity.

During the meeting, Victoria Burnazyan, Vice President of EcoLur Informational NGO, presented the key objectives of COP17, the targets of the Republic of Armenia’s national biodiversity conservation programme, and the significance of Jermuk in the context of implementing the biodiversity conservation targets undertaken by Armenia.

The participants also discussed opportunities for representatives of Jermuk community to participate in COP17 and present the community’s environmental challenges and initiatives within the framework of the conference.

Details of the meeting will be presented in EcoLur’s forthcoming publications.
