In July 2026, members of the international CEE Bankwatch Network, a long-standing partner of EcoLur Informational NGO, visited Yerevan. Together with EcoLur, they held meetings with representatives of Armenian civil society, the Ministries of Environment and Territorial Administration and Infrastructure, local self-government bodies, multilateral development banks, the European Union in Armenia, the American University of Armenia’s Acopian Center for the Environment, and the Kotayk and Gegharkunik Solid Waste Management project. The meetings provided an opportunity to exchange ideas, assess progress on development projects, and discuss preparations for the upcoming 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17).
The discussions focused on waste management issues in Armenia, including solid waste management solutions for Yerevan. The delegation also visited the Hrazdan sanitary landfill and the communities of Sevan, Hrazdan, and Jermuk.
Members of the CEE Bankwatch Network emphasized the importance of advancing tariff reform and introducing the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) scheme to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of municipal waste systems.
