If “Arpa-3” SHPP is granted a positive opinion of the environmental expertise, it will be constructed in the territory of specially protected area “Jermuk Hydrological State Reserve”. The reserve is established for the protection of “Jermuk” underground mineral springs. The project says (Customer - “Jinj-Arpa” LLC) it’s proposed to use charges with small amount of explosives to cut the level of impact of explosions on the basin of underground mineral waters.
Reminder: hydrologists have warned many times that mineral springs are very vulnerable and may suffer from the explosions and fall into the cracks. There is another reserve located in a distance of 3 km from Jermuk hydrological reserve, namely Jermuk. In this regard, the project says that the only impact on the fauna is the noise produced by the heavy machinery, but this impact is short-term (while construction works are in progress), that’s why the impact on the fauna is insignificant.
