Meghri Aldermen’s Council member Michael (Marat) Ohanyan has resigned because of his being against to the construction of the SHPP in Meghri. www.meghrinews.com website has published Michael Ohanyan’s address to Meghri residents. The address says:

“Dear compatriots,

On 19 November 2013 the extraordinary meeting of the Meghri Aldermen’s Council tool place, where the change in the category of a land area was discussed for the purpose of constructing a SHPP in the town.

In my deep opinion, the construction of the SHPP in the very town will generate new problems in the community in this concerned environmental situation. Taking into consideration the circumstance that as a Chairman of the Environmental Committee of the Aldermen’s Council I consider it strange to convene an extraordinary meeting of the Aldermen’s Council and call for the counterparts to turn down the proposal to change the category of a land area for the construction of the SHPP in the territory of the town. Nevertheless, eight out of nine members voted for the Mayor’s proposal.

I declare the decision of the Aldermen’s council to be a big strike to the environmental situation in Meghri River and I consider my further activities in such a Council as inexpedient.
