On December 16, 2014 at 12 o'clock public discussions will take place on the working project of "Vorotan" SHPP construction in Yeghegnadzor Municipality in Ararat region.
"Vorotan" SHPP will be constructed in Syunik region on the River Vorotan, a part of the drainage basin of Lake Sevan.
The derivation length will be 5210 m, the derivation diameter will be 1.40 m. As a result of the SHPP construction 16 km of the river area will be included in the pipe.
It's not mentioned in the project what fish species live in the River Vorotan and whether there are red-listed species in it. It's only mentioned that in order to decrease the influence on fish it's planned to build a fish way the environmental flow of which will constitute 0.65m3/s to provide its function. At the same time the project presents the risks for fish, "...The HPP construction will have a direct influence on the fauna of the river, particularly on fish first of all because of dividing the river with a dam and closing the fish moving way towards upper currents.
The material was developed in the frames of “Supporting reforms in the sector of small hydro power plants through enabling a dialogue between civil society and the Ministry of Nature Protection for sustainable use of river ecosystems” supported by UNDP/GEF Small Grants Programme".
