The main objectives of the solid household waste management state policy have not been implemented, Chairman of Audit Chamber Atom Janjughazyan noted, presenting the current conclusion of Audit Chamber at the joint session of Parliament committees.

In 2021-2023, 32 events in 4 directions were planned to be implemented in the field. Some of them were performed later than the specified dates. Four measures of garbage collection were not carried out, etc.

As of the beginning of 2021, before the consolidation of municipalities, organized garbage collection was carried out only in urban and suburban settlements, whereas it was not carried out at all in 58 municipalities. "The landfills sites do not meet international or any urban planning, environmental and sanitary standards and are operated unregulated," he emphasized.

Atom Janjughazyan outlined that solid waste is of essential importance in terms of air pollution. According to the data of the World Health Organization, the level of air pollution in Armenia is 6 times higher, and among the 31 countries of the world, Armenia ranks 22nd in terms of air pollution. the death rate due to air pollution in Armenia exceeds the world average by 19 percent, and the average European rate by 2.6 times.

RA Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Vache Terteryan detailed that 120 landfill sites are currently being considered because of the consolidation of communities instead of 320 landfills in 2022. No landfills were closed.

"Until a new landfill is built, the old one cannot be closed, today there is no licensed landfill in Armenia.
