To assess the impact of air pollution on human health in Armenia, clear data on air pollutants are necessary, particularly on the concentration of PM 2.5 fine dust particles, which, according to RA Ministry of Health, do not exist.
The issue is that the information from air pollution measurement devices installed by Yerevan Municipality is not considered a basis for the Ministry of Health, whereas RA Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center does not measure fine dust particles in the air.
EcoLur Informational NGO Deputy President Victoria Burnazyan’s observation:
"Yerevan has not reached the target set by the Green City Action Plan, and today we do not have the defined indicator—the clean air we wanted to achieve—because pollution levels exceed the limits. Several measures required by the Law on Atmospheric Air Protection are not included in urban planning."
Dr. Araik Papoyan, a hygienist from Environmental Hygiene Division of National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of RA Ministry of Health, states that Yerevan Municipality's data cannot be considered a basis, as the responsible body is the Hydrometeorology and Monitoring Center.
Civil society demands that tRA Ministry of Health take steps to address the identified issue. According to EcoLur NGO President Inga Zarafyan, society has the right to know whether atmospheric air pollution harms health or not.
