“In the summer of 2019, we decided that we wanted to work in tourism and that we wanted to buy land or a house in Lori Region to turn it into our business,” Davit Karmirshalyan, Founder of “Chamich” Guesthouse says.
Lilit Chitchyan and Davit Karmirshalyan are from Yerevan. Loving the nature of Lori, and also taking into account that at that time there were no guesthouses in the classic sense in Debet or Tumanyan, they decided to establish their guesthouse in Debeti in 2029, which they named “Chamich.”
“Chamich” Guesthouse is one of the beneficiaries of “Living Landscapes for Market Development in Armenia” (LILA) project, launched in 2021. The goal of the project is to improve the livelihoods of rural populations in Armenia’s mountain ecosystems through the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources. The project is funded by the Government of Switzerland through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and is implemented by Caucasus and Armenia offices of the WWF in cooperation with Strategic Development Agency (SDA) NGO.
Alla Ghazaryan, representative of Strategic Development Agency NGO and Coordinator of Economic Component of LILA project, told journalists: “Within this component, we aim to create alternative sources of income for residents of target settlements through sustainable and inclusive tourism, wild collection, and the production and supply of local agricultural products—toward the hospitality sector.” According to Alla Ghazaryan, the involvement of women in business processes has also been emphasized.
