Climate Anomalies Observed in Armenia in 2024

In 2024, Armenia experienced several climate anomalies. The annual average temperature reached 7.2°C, which was 1.7°C above the norm. It was the seventh warmest year recorded since 1935. The total annual precipitation amounted to 669 mm, exceeding the normal levels.

The winter of 2023-2024 had an average temperature 4.0°C above the norm, making it the second warmest winter since 1935 and the warmest since 1966. April 2024 was the hottest April on record since 1935, with an extreme lack of precipitation.

May 2024, on the other hand, was the wettest May since 1937. From May 25-26, heavy rainfall caused severe flooding in the Debed and Aghstev river basins.

In July 2024, the average precipitation in Armenia reached 84 mm, making it the wettest July since 1965.
