From February 16-19, 2026, the 6th meeting of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI6) of the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) will be held in Rome, Italy. The SBI plays a key role in assessing progress in the implementation of the Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KM-GBF).
Progress in preparations for COP17 will be presented during SBI6.
In the context of COP17, the following issues will be discussed:

Review of progress in updating and implementing National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) in accordance with the 2025 deadline;

Assessment of the relationship between debt sustainability and implementation of the Convention, as well as a review of biodiversity financing mechanisms;

Preparation of the framework for the global review of progress toward the KM-GBF targets, which is to be finalized at COP17.
Armenia’s Environment Minister, Hambardzum Matevosyan, will travel to Rome to participate in SBI6. According to the Ministry, a meeting is planned with the Secretary of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity and representatives of its Executive Body to discuss a number of organizational and substantive issues.
