

The residents of Vayots Dzor Region, Armenia, - Hayk Isakhanyan, a member of the initiative opposing the exploitation of the Gladzor polymetallic deposit, and Tigran Mikaelyan, a tourism and hotel industry manager- have sent a letter to the Minister of Environment of Armenia, Hakob Simidyan, and Vayots Dzor Regional Governor Kolya Mikaelyan. They demand the rejection and non-acceptance for expert review of the application submitted by GMN Gold Mining LLC to construct an ore/mineral processing/extraction plant in the territory of Zaritap village, part of Vayk community in Vayots Dzor Region.
The letter states:
“The public hearing held on May 13, 2025, in the Zaritap community was conducted with gross violations of the law. We request that a legal assessment be given to the matter, and that measures be taken to prevent and hold accountable the community leader for unlawful actions. Based on the community council’s decision, we urge that the application submitted by GMN Gold Mining LLC for the construction of an ore and/or mineral and/or concentrate processing/extraction plant in Zaritap not be forwarded for expert examination.”
