Ecolur is conducting awareness meetings in communities on the Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system.
EPR is a long-established system operating in the European Union, which makes producers or importers of certain products responsible for the environmentally sound management of specific types of waste generated from the consumption of those products.

At the end of 2025, within the framework of “Informing and Supporting Introduction of Extended Producer Responsibility System in Armenia for Healthy Environment” sub-project implemented under “Waste Policy in Armenia” programme funded by Sweden and carried out by the AUA Acopian Center for the Environment, an awareness meeting was held at Abovyan Municipality.
The problems of the waste sector in Armenia, the EPR system, and Bulgaria’s experience in waste management were presented by Victoria Burnazyan, Deputy President of EcoLur Informational NGO.
She noted that, according to expert assessments, approximately 700,000 tons of solid municipal waste are generated annually in settlements across Armenia. Only 5% of total waste is recycled.
With the introduction of the EPR system, communities will have the opportunity to reduce a certain volume of packaging waste, which will be directed to recycling instead of burdening municipal waste bins and landfills.
