

On February 15, 2022, the founding session of the reorganization of the Ecological Public Alliance was held on the initiative of Silva Adamyan, President of Bird Lovers NGO, at EcoLur Press Club. The meeting was also attended by Inga Zarafyan, President of EcoLur Informational NGO, Ruzan Ghazaryan, Director of Dalma-Sona Educational and Cultural Foundation, Tehmine Yenokyan, President of Green Armenia NGO, Mariam Chakhyan, President of Tukhmanuk Educational and Human Rights Center NGO and EcoLur journalist Christina Ter-Matevosyan.
Silva Adamyan noted that previously the environmental bloc united about 50 organizations, which were active in identifying and solving environmental problems. The alliance took an active part, stopped the dangerous plan to move Ararat gold recovery factory from Ararat to Sotq, resolved the issue of occupying Jrvezh forest park, fought for Khosrov Forest State Reserve, and carried out SOS Sevan and SOS Yerevan campaigns. At present, the alliance is not active. Some organizations have left, some information is not available at all. It is necessary to revive or create a new ecological and social alliance.
The participants of the meeting confirmed that there are new challenges in the socio-ecological field, whereas civil society must unite and make joint efforts to overcome those challenges.
During the meeting, priority was given to the following issues: Lake Sevan issues, assessment of RA draft law on amendments to Law on Environmental Impact Assessment, campaign against changes in Soil Code, fight against land grabbing in Yerevan, problem of launching new dangerous enterprises, the state of the landfill sites in Yerevan.
As of February 17, the alliance was joined by Consumer Advice Center NGO, Center fpr Community Consolidation and Support NGO, Association for Sustainable Human Development NGO, Forests of Armenia NGO, and Victims of Public Eminent Domain NGO.
The alliance is open for membership.
