The activists, who are protecting Mashtots Park, prepared a symbolic present for Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan. It turned out to be the Armenian Constitution and this present is not an accidental one. The chapter 105 of the Armenian Constitution lays down the rights and obligations of the Municipality in regard with the property. The copy of the Constitution was handed to him in the course of the march held on 4 May. Reminder on 1 May the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan visited Mashtots Park and told Taron Margaryan that the pavilions there should be dismantled, as it was not “nice.” All this was preceded by the struggle, which started from the transfer of pavilions from Abovyan Street to Mashtots Park. This transfer was illegal: the authorities couldn’t present the legal documents confirming owners’ right to the public territory. During 80 days the activists didn’t get out of the garden, stayed almost under the open sky, and demanded to implement the main law of the country and to return public property, Mashtots Park, to Yerevan residents. And here is the reply of the country’s head and the activists intend to preset him a copy of the Constitution to him as well.
