The medical checkup of the employees’ health state is over at Akhtala Ore Processing Combine, which has been carried out by Alaverdi Medical Center. As Akhtala Ore Processing Combine representative told EcoLur, 530 employees were checked, which makes up almost the staff of the combine. Under him, there are no tubercular patients at the combine, as well as people ill with other lung diseases. “In the past some people ill with tuberculosis has been revealed and they retired. Now doctors have worked here for more than 2 months and there was a device just in the territory of the combine, where the employees were checked. Tuberculosis hasn’t been revealed, everything is OK,” he said in his telephone interview with EcoLur.
In August 2012 EcoLur shot a material, where the ex worker of Akhtala Ore Processing Plant (he wanted to remain incognito) presented the problems, including those with the problem (see the video). “We have applied to the government to find solutions to social problems and demand humanistic attitude towards the employees...As the combine didn’t have either bathrooms or working uniform...heavy machinery drove on the roads, and the roads got spoilt, nobody repaired them...but something went good after our complaints...what about health, the health of the workers at the crushing plant is rather poor, as they breathe in rather polluted air...Around 175 people were ill and we wrote that nothing is done in regard with the professional medical service...If somebody didn’t go to work because of a disease. He was just dismissed and that’s it...Both my sons work at the combine...one of them demanded to have somewhere to eat or to wash...I supported him and made something, as we didn’t have even a canteen...Once they was we were eating at the table, and they hit and broke the table…,” he said. For our part we would like to mention that such diseases as silicosis, tuberculosis are typical of people working in ore processing industries without good employment conditions.
