“Trchkan” civic initiative has made an enquiry to the Council of National Security about the opinionon leasing Syunik land areas to East Azerbaijan. The enquiry is addressed to the Council Secretary Arthur Baghdasaryan and Head of National Security Service of RA gorik Hakobyan. The letter particularly says, “…The press covers the information that Armenia and Iran have signed a memorandum, which says that Syunik region is leased to Iranian Province of west Azerbaijan for the pasture of cattle…People are concerned that all this may come true…It’s not clear why the structures headed by you haven’t addressed this issue so far and haven’t expressed their opinion on the conclusion of the memorandum. Welcoming Armenian-Iranian relations, at the same time its’ clear that first of all, we need to set favourable conditions for Armenian farmers and then only to think about the cooperation with Iran or any other country in this field.
We would like to ask you to express your viewpoint in this regard, whether the signing of the memorandum doesn’t undermine the national security of the Republic of Armenia. At the same time, we call for the Armenian Government to refrain from adopting such decisions without informing public and without taking public opinion into account.”
